Mississippi Second DUI Defense Attorney
What Makes Multiple DUI Convictions Worse
After receiving your first DUI, the penalties begin to multiply. For example, a 4
th degree DUI, which is a felony level offense, is usually applied in circumstances involving a third offense or greater. However, factors such as the level of intoxication and any other offense that may have occurred at the time of the DUI can lead to this harsher charge on the second offense. In general, fines go up, possible jail time increases, and the amount of time your license can be suspended doubles. You could be facing community service work as well that can range between ten days of time and a year's worth of service. A second DUI offense can also mean the mandatory installation of an ignition interlock system for a minimum of six months or the impoundment and sale of your vehicle. It is not uncommon for a person convicted of a second DUI offense to also have to attend mandatory counseling or seek treatment for substance abuse problems.
